OSBA recently sat down with Jae Pak and Kristen Basista, respectively the president and 1L representative of the Intellectual Property Law Society at The Moritz College of Law.
The society’s mission is to give law students a better idea of what intellectual property law is, as well as an opportunity to see what a law firm really looks like. President Pak hopes this will provide students with a better understanding of what they want to do in the future.
In Basista’s opinion, involvement in this organization has many benefits. First, it is useful to work with upperclassman and obtain their tips and advice. Second, being in a position where people depend on you helps to hone time management and leadership skills. Lastly, as a representative you are more likely to attend a variety of events rather than solely those that interest you. She says, “If you only go to things that you think you’re interested in, you may be missing out on something that you had no idea about.”
Joining this organization or one like it helps to put incoming and 1L law students in a position for success both in law school and in their future careers.
